Since the NHLPA and the owners do not want hockey to be played anytime soon, Fox Sports Detroit has been doing a great thing for those who are really missing the sport right now (including myself). First off, they will be showing more college hockey games (mainly CCHA teams) regardless of whether or not the NHL gets back to work. Second, over the past few
weeks, they have been showing replays of some of the greatest Red Wings games over the past few years. I have been able to watch three of them so far, and here is a brief description of each game to give all you history buffs a brief lesson:
weeks, they have been showing replays of some of the greatest Red Wings games over the past few years. I have been able to watch three of them so far, and here is a brief description of each game to give all you history buffs a brief lesson:#1: Anaheim Ducks at Detroit Red Wings – Western Conference Semi-Finals Game 7
On May 14th, 2009, this game featured the past two Stanley Cup Champions (Ducks – 2007, Red Wings - 2008) that had a chance to play the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Finals that year. In the end, it took a goal from Dan Cleary late in the 3rd period to seal a gritty 4-3 victory for the Red Wings. The Wings ended up losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Finals at home, 2-1 (you don’t have to remind me about that tough loss).

#2: Detroit Red Wings at Phoenix Coyotes – Western Conference Quarterfinals Game 7
On April 27th, 2010, this back-and-forth series was decided in a Game Seven in Phoenix as the Red Wings ran away in this one with a dominating 6-1 victory thanks to the fire power from Pavel Datsyuk and Niklas Lidstrom. The Red Wings eventually lost in the next round to the San Jose Sharks in five games.

#3: Dallas Stars at Detroit Red Wings – 21st Straight Home Victory
On February 14th, 2012, the Red Wings officially broke the NHL record with their 21st consecutive home-ice victory passing the 1929-30 Boston Bruins mark of 20 straight home victories. The Red Wings won the game 3-1, and Goaltender Joey McDonald had a shutout going until the Stars scored with just over 30 seconds left. The Red Wings would eventually push their streak to 23 straight until they were defeated by the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in a shootout on February 23rd.

I hope that Fox Sports Detroit continues to show these great classics from the Red Wings if there isn’t going to be professional hockey anytime soon. Another thing that they will be doing is
broadcasting an AHL game here-and-there as Friday night, they will be broadcasting the Grand Rapids Griffins game as they host the Charlotte Checkers at 7:00 pm. If there is not going to be any NHL hockey played this year, then why not go the alternate route and broadcast some college, AHL, or even junior level hockey? I am telling you, if you have not had the chance, go see some lower level hockey like the USHL, you will not be disappointed! It appears that both sides in the NHL bargaining scheme will not budge on their stances anytime soon.

Speaking of NHL talent, I had a chance to interview Washington Capitals prospect and Lumberjacks Defenseman, Patrick Koudys, on what it was like to get drafted in 2011 by the Capitals and what his thoughts are on the NHL lockout. I also had a chance to do my weekly interview with Lumberjacks Head Coach Jim McKenzie. Enjoy the interviews and as always….LET’S GO JACKS!!!Head Coach Jim McKenzie #6 by Bryan Fongers
