Sounds of the Season: Jan. 13-14

Although the Lumberjacks' losing streak reached four this weekend, the offense came alive. In scoring seven goals in the two home games, the Jacks posted their most potent back-to-back efforts in more than a month, when they also netted seven against Youngstown Dec. 2-3.

On to the highlights, as a fast-paced affair between Muskegon and Des Moines went the visitors' way in a 5-3 final. Along the way Christian Pomarico got his first USHL goal, John Padulo put in another while shorthanded and Matt DeBlouw put an end to a long drought. Goalie John Keeney also makes an appearance, as he stopped 40-plus shots for the fifth time:


On Saturday night at L.C. Walker Arena the Jacks gave the league-leading Gamblers all they could handle, coming back to carry a 3-2 lead late in the second. Green Bay rebounded for a 6-4 win, but Joe Cox, Rudy Sulmonte and Ryan Lomberg all connected, along with DeBlouw again, to make it interesting until the end.


I also spoke with Sulmonte for Friday's first intermission. We discussed how a newcomer like him can be an instant leader on a young team like the Jacks, plus how the New York Rangers, his childhood team, are lighting up the NHL:
